Automating Weekly Google Ads Campaign Reports with AI and Make.com

I recently helped a digital marketing agency in New York automate their Google Ads reporting. Their team was spending a lot of time doing this manually each week, so I built a solution that simplified the process and made it easier to share insights with their clients.

The Problem

The agency manages multiple Google Ads campaigns for different clients. A few of those clients requested weekly performance snapshots comparing results with the previous week.

Every week, the team had to:

  • Log into Google Ads
  • Export the campaign performance data
  • Manually format the data in Excel
  • Write a summary for each campaign
  • Send the reports via email or Slack

This process was repetitive, time-consuming, and often led to inconsistencies.

Solution

I built a fully automated reporting system using Make.com and OpenAI.

Here’s what the automation does:

  • Fetches Google Ads campaign data weekly
  • Compares performance between last week and the previous week
  • Highlights key metric changes (impressions, clicks, conversions, costs)
  • Generates human-readable summaries using OpenAI
  • Sends neatly formatted messages to Slack, grouped by campaign

How AI Makes a Difference

Instead of raw data dumps, clients now get short, readable summaries like:

“Campaign A saw a 12% increase in clicks and a 9% drop in cost-per-conversion compared to the previous week.”

I fine-tuned the OpenAI prompts to ensure the summaries were concise, relevant, and tailored to marketers — no AI jargon.

Why Make.com?

Make.com made it easy to connect Google Ads, OpenAI, and Slack — all without writing any backend code. Its drag-and-drop interface allowed us to build the logic, apply filters, and schedule the automation to run every Monday morning. The best part is that it’s easy for the client to maintain and very cost-effective.

Result

The agency now saves several hours each week, allowing the team to focus on more important tasks. Reports are delivered consistently, and clients appreciate the clear, easy-to-read summaries. No more spreadsheets. No more manual updates.

Final Thoughts

This project is a great example of how AI and automation can make recurring tasks simpler, faster, and more client-friendly.

If you’re spending time every week on reports, there’s a smarter way to do it. I’d be happy to help you explore automation options tailored to your business.
